Won't You Take Me to Comfy Town?

Today I have a few hacks and tips for a few of my fave patterns by Rebecca Page Patterns.

The Paris Party Dress Top and Pippa Pants: The Oopsie Hack

Everything is better with stuffed Unicorns and Flamingos!

I always forget about the Paris Party Dress *TOP*. And I forgot how flattering and easy to make it was. (an easy sew = automatically comfy)


When I received my recent Water Tower Textiles order, I knew this striped lightweight cotton lycra was meant to be a Paris Party Top!

It is the perfect fit, matches with my Flamingo Pippas, and is super easy to grade (I am a Medium to XL in *most* Rebecca Page Patterns). 

The pants, however...let's just say - READ THE STRETCH REQUIREMENTS!

I failed to do this, as I was so excited to sew up my Flamingo fabric - which happens to be some lightweight sort of 2-way stretch fleece from a Walmart throw blanket.

So....when I tried on my Pippas, out came the seam ripper and my hacking noggin. 

The pants wouldn't come up over my thighs let alone to my hips, so I:

- Measured the existing fabric (with stretch), and realized I needed to add another 6" on either side to get these birds on my not-so-stick-legs

- The pants fit my knees to ankles, so I knew I didn't need to cut down past where my knee hit - so I cut a straight line down the length from where the pants should sit (without the band) to my knee.

- I cut a slight angle on either side of the slit to prevent wonkiness at the point (knee)

And after all that, they fit perfectly!  And I now know to DEFINITELY size up the next time I don't use the proper stretch fabric for my Pippas.

The Strappy Cami and Pippa Pants

The Strappy Cami is a Subscription Only pattern - and it's SO comfy and easy to sew up.  The grading makes it fit like a glove. 

This is my fourth Cami AND pair of Pippas... I'm a bit obsessed. 

But the comfort of this outfit screams: "Curl up on the couch with a puppy at your feet while reading a book and sipping on some tea!"

I like this Camisole more than others because it also has a Ruched Side version. I'm a sucker for Ruching as it hides my imperfections and I can nom nom without it showing (ha ha).

The fabric is the same fabric as the Paris Top above, from Water Tower Textiles.

Comfy Cowl and Pippa Pants

Gideon approves of my next comfy outfit!  

I LOVE this Comfy Cowl, and so does Husband.  He compliments me on my other two all the time, so why not add a third into the mix?  

I love the way it flows, the pocket option, and the cowl multi tasks as a head cover if I forget my hat!

Lightweight Cotton Lycra/Rayon from Water Tower Textiles.  Obviously I have a favourite Fabric supplier, and Patty has awesome "clearance" fabric - my favourite way to shop!

Another pair of Pippas (#5!), with some awesome Scaled Fabric from Okee Dokee Fabrics.  It's Double Brushed Polyester, and feels like a dream when I wear them!  

I can wear all of these garments to be comfy at home, work (I *do* work from my home office 98% of the time), or just running errands.  

I mean, who wants buttons, snaps, and tightness while succeeding at life? Not this girl!

The Canadian Tuxedo Style

First off, things not to forget when you're headed to a photo shoot in the middle of nowhere: nice shoes. It was either my hiking boots or comfy sandals, so hiking boots it was.

But you know what made up for practical shoes? An amazing outfit!

My Canadian tuxedo style starts off with the Kingston Jacket with Add On features.

I made my First two Kingstons in April 2018 as part of my first pattern testing - but when I saw the Add On features, I had to grab it and make another jacket.

I opted for the following features:
- Exterior welt pockets
- Knit sleeve option
- Hood (duh!)
- Back panel ruffle



I love that the hood will keep my head and neck warm in the fall/spring seasons, and whenever Husband is driving with the Air Conditioning too high and my nose is ready to fall off it's so darn cold.

It is a single hood, but with two sets of hood panels, it could easily be sewn with a double hood, totally concealing any inside seams.

To work, or play? that is the question...

It's all in the details - the ruffle, hood, seams, waistband, and even the snaps...it looks store bought!

...AND I hacked the sleeves to include thumbhole cuffs...because why wouldn't I have thumbhole cuffs for pure warm bliss on my poorly circulated fingers??



Paired with my Knee length Peggy Pencil Skirt and Classic Madison Blouse (which I haven't worn out yet!), I just love this relaxed combo ready for work or play!

Pretty in Pink

Vroom Vroom! Next stop at the cabin lot is adventures with the ATV!  

Geared up in my Riley Vest (with hood and pockets), Wrap Around Top, and Pippa Pants, nothing can go wrong. Right?

I love my new Pippas - and the stretch plaid is perfect for the fall weather. 

I opted for the flat front and took about 3" off the hem (I'm 5'2") for the perfect fit. 

Paired with a casual or fancy long sleeved top, hood or no hood, I am really loving this combination!

 

I love the details too - like the quilting (my first time doing it!). It may take a bit of time, but it's well worth the effort.

The welt pocket is the perfect size to keep my hands warm, and I was able to use some scraps for the pockets and interior lining. 

The pink fabric is actually an old blanket my mother-in-law's sister gave me from a fabric stash (two car loads of sewing supplies) this past summer. 

I knew as soon as I saw that blanket that it would be either the Amsterdam Jacket or Riley Vest. Riley won!

Now, my only mishap was the blanket fabric. It is SCRATCHY. 

Like Itchy and Scratchy scratchy. And not comfortable. 

So how did I solve that dilemma?  By cutting another collar piece (scrap knit), cutting a good inch off each edge, hemming the edge, pinning it on the inside, and sewing it onto the collar. 

OMG - what a difference that made - now my Riley is so beyond perfect!

Underneath the warmth of my Riley is the newest RP pattern - the Wrap Around Top. 

Perfect for the...forest?  Sure - I just go with the flow!  

It's really comfy with a rayon knit base, some lace, and breathable random thin knit sleeves. 

And this is what happens when Husband does silly dances while you're doing a photo shoot. Le sigh.

Wrap It Up

 

My final combo includes my Pippas and the Comfy Cowl Hoodie.

I am so delighted that I finally took the time to create the Comfy Cowl Hoodie! 

I am so in need of Hoodies since I've been working from my home office in the freezing basement, but with the lovely summer weather, it wasn't a priority. 

And now I'm in love!

The hood is a double hood, meaning it's lined inside, so you see no seams. 

And it's quite comfortable to wear as either a cowl or a hood. 

I used a really long shoelace I found (sorry Husband if it's yours!) for the tie, cotton lycra for the sleeves, hood, and pocket, and lightweight sweatshirt fabric for the main bodice. 

It was an easy sew, and I can't wait to make more of both the Hoodie and the Pants.

I must make a few more Pippas for the office - when my Migraine/Vertigo brain decides to behave, I definitely require comfy pants after working from home since March!

Me Made May Day 10 - G + G Super Sleeve Top and Rebecca Page's Circle Cardigan

So, today I am wearing a repeat.


It's cold in our basement where my home office is...so unless it's a maxi skirt, I'm somewhat limited with my pants.


PLUS I wanted to match my top.


Me Made May...I'm still wearing all me-made clothes with 66% unworn previously this May. So it's counts.

Today's frock includes:

I love them. They are cozy, fit perfect, and make me happy.


I don't care that I've worn them twice in a week.

George + Ginger's Super Sleeve Top


I admit I bombed this one. I love the fit of all my G + G patterns, but I chose the wrong fabric for the sleeves.


The fox fabric is a Cotton Lycra Interlock - WAY too thick for the flutter sleeves I was going for.


I colour blocked the top part of the bodice due to lack of fabric, and matched it with my Tardis Blue Cotton Lycra.


I just do it - I seem to colour block more these days as I want to get every inch out of the amazing fabrics I find!


So I took off the flutter sleeves, hoped that the arm holes weren't totally geared for sleeves, and made it into a Tank Top instead. With self-drafted binding with some lycra fabric. And it works!


In hindsight, I could of just cut some of the blue fabric I have left (much lighter) to make the sleeves again, but it's coming close to summer, and I couldn't be bothered.


So not so much a super sleeve, but I don't have as many tank tops as I thought I did. So it worked out in the end.

Rebecca Page's Circle Cardie


I love my Circle Cardie - it's under an hour from cut to finished, and I love the waterfall cascade.


As I'm always cold, this is the perfect year round Cardigan for me!
