Get Your Beauty Sleep - the Rebecca Page Sleep Mask

Being a sleepy girl with a busy life is hard. 

The new Rebecca Page Sleep Mask certainly helps me zonk out easier at night though!

Make it as simple or as Intricate as you like!  

With templates for eye lashes and your imagination - the sleepy sky's the limit.

I added pom pom trim and fluffy feathery trim to mine - the fluffy trim definitely tells people you are sleeping though (it moves as you exhale - ha ha).   I took out my glue gun for these trims, although they could easily be sewed on.  With minimal wear and tear, I feel my Dewalt glue gun's power will hold on these trims for many years. 

I used iron on fabric for the eyelashes, but you can embroidery them on or even sew them on if you're so inclined. 

I used elastic for my nieces masks, and ribbon for the adult masks (for my friend and I for Girls weekend at the cabin). 

The main fabric is just plain woven cotton fabric scraps I was gifted. 

The backing is a nice satin lining scrap - red to be scandalous!  It's SUPER soft on my skin.  

As long as you use lots of pins before sewing, satin is relatively easy to sew with, and leaves a comfortable finishing touch. 

I was really tired on Girls weekend after Mimosas, so the Sleep Mask really helped me sleep in the middle of the day with no curtains up in the cabin.

Jeans are Always a Good Idea - The Rebecca Page Jo Jeans Sewing Pattern

When in doubt, wear Denim. 

And that's just what you'll want to do once you sew up your very own pair of Jo Jeans!

- Joey Jeans - 12 months to 12 years old
- Jo Jeans XXS to 5XL Ladies

With pockets, shorts or pants options, and more, top stitch to look like a pro, and learn how to sew in a zipper!  There are even tips on how to get the perfect size for your shape.

 

I took 4" off the length (I'm 5'-2", and was able to finally sew in a zipper without ripping it out part way through.  With loads of pictures and instructions, patience and a bit of TLC meant I was finally able to sew up a zip-up pair of comfy jeans. 

They're a bit more relaxed than skinny jeans, but I don't really need a belt for them (unless accessorizing). 

I used a stretch jeans fabric from Fabricland (my normal place didn't have any available quick enough during pre-testing!), and even splurged on top stitch thread.  

What a different top stitching makes!  It definitely gives them a professional look. 

 

I can bend over and don't have plumber's behind, squat, sit, walk, and everything without feeling discomfort or wedgies happening - this is always a good thing. 

So if you want a bit of a challenge (in comparison with a basic knit top or joggers), definitely sew up the Jo, Joe, or Joey Jeans for yourself and your family!

One Stitch at a Time - The 5 out of 4 Patterns Sandra Dolman Tunic Sewing Pattern Review

Never underestimate the power of a woman with a sewing machine. 

There's always sew much fabric and sew little time...but there should be time to sew up the new 5 out of 4 Sandra Dolman Tunic (or Dress)!

The new Sandra Dolman Tunic/Dress pattern has several fun options:
- Tunic or Dress length
- Short or long bottom split bands
- Short or long sleeves
- Optional hood
- V Neck or Crew Neck
- Optional Thumbhole Cuffs

I sewed up my Sandra with some random waffle knit from Water Tower Textiles, and beautiful Double Brushed Polyester (DBP) from Libelle Sewing. 

They mesh together so beautifully, and go well with my 5 out of 4 Zen Pants (also Libelle Sewing fabric - Scuba!).

This top was easy to sew up, and I love the options and oversized fit.  It definitely makes me feel better about the lumps and bumps I don't like about myself. 

And I love that it covers my behind - it's always cold!  

I tested this top out as a layer while closing up our trailer, and the hood made it nice, as the back of my neck didn't get cold, and I looked fashionable while sweeping snow off the trailer roof. 

As you can see, it's not a slim fit top, but has a nice drapey feel to it.  With that in mind, I definitely recommend a lightweight fabric such as the Waffle KNit or light Sweater knit to prevent a weird boxy feel.

The 5 out of 4 Weekender Tunic - Comfort Every Day of the Week!

Dear Weekender, 

I like you.

Love, Me.

I've had 5 out of 4's Weekender Tunic pattern in my to-make stash for eons, just waiting for the right fabric. 

When I met Libelle Sewing's Denim Cable Knit Fabric, the Weekender was ready. 

With a lovely light drape, but warm enough to keep me cozy in the house that manages to continually drop to 18 degrees Celsius (64 Fahrenheit).

 


The Weekender pattern has a plethora of options:
- Short or long sleeves
- Loose or skinny sleeves
- Thumb hole cuffs, hemmed, or rolled sleeves
- Hood, funnel neck, crew neck or scoop neck
- Placket with lace up detail option
- Regular, high-low, or banded hem

I opted for long loose sleeves, hemmed sleeves, hood, and regular hem. And it's perfect!  

I didn't shorten the length, and LOVE that it covers my behind - my hips and bum always get cold, so longer length is the perfect solution. 

 


Even Husband commented on how good this sweater looks on me and says I need to make more - so that says volumes!

Now I need to stock up on more cable knit and make myself every variation of the Weekender to keep me toasty and fashionable this long Canadian Winter.

Be Zen with 5 out of 4's Zen Pants Pattern

Okay, so I threw that last one in there, but sewing is my zen, and 5 out of 4's Zen pants make me feel bootylicious. 

 


The Zen pants come with a few fun features - ones that make you feel like undercover Yoga pants (even when you're in the office!):

I sewed this amazing floral pair with Scuba fabric from Libelle sewing.  It has the perfect amount of stretch and stability, and is soooooo comfy.  Perfect for fall throughout spring here in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada!  

I opted for a midrise waistband, front and back pockets, and it was a relatively quick & easy sew.  The instructions are straight forward, and the fit is perfect for me. 

I took 3" off the height - after measuring my inseam and comparing it to the finished length.  I didn't alter anything else. 

The view from the side is just as Epic.  

As you can see, the bottoms aren't too big or small, but just right, and there is no gaping from the waist band.  

I honestly thing a lack of proper fabric on my end has stopped me from making more Zen pants for my office attire and just for fun!  

A less colourful pair of Zens I made last year were made from not as stretchy as I'd like suiting fabric from Fabricland.

I made the same style with pockets and mid rise, and love these ones just as much (they're also easier to match with my usually colourful and colour blocked tops). 

So whether it's for serious work or play, the Zen pants are sooooooo comfy, you can't go wrong.

Keep Calm and Love Laura - The Rebecca Page Laura Top and Dress Sewing Pattern

The Rebecca Page Laura Top (and dress) pattern is a lovely sew and the perfect pattern for your lightweight fabrics!

It includes the following options:
- Sizing from XXS to 5Xl
- Top or short Dress length
- Knits or woven fabrics can be used
- dropped shoulders
- High low hem
- Optional pockets

 

I am not normally one to wear higher cut tops, but the high front is on par, and the lower back covers my caboose, so I'm happy with the overall fit. 

The armcycle is very comfortable and not tight in any way - either on the shoulder or around the arm itself.  

The neck facing offers many options - I opted for the interfacing version with overstitching, and it was easy to follow the instructions.   

 


Lots of pictures and verbiage definitely will help the beginner sewist gain more confidence while sewing and learning new skills - new skills are one of the reasons I keep sewing with Rebecca Page!

I used a light viscose/woven rayon type fabric from Fabricland for my Laura and can't wait to sew more up (can someone give me more time in the day!?!). 

I paired my Laura with my altered Slim Fit Cargo Pants for a nice untucked look:

 

And with my slimmed down Posy Pants (4" off the side seams) as a tucked in top for the office:

 

So many ways to encorporate Laura into your wardrobe whether you are an experienced or new sewist.

Put a Twist on It - 5 out of 4's Sally Skirt

Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak. 

The new 5 out of 4 Sally Skirt Pattern is just that. 

It includes several fashionista options:
- Knee length or Maxi length skirt
- Regular or knot twist band
- POCKETS

 

 The front is pretty sweet with the easy-to-follow instructions for the front knot option - I used a black cotton lycra (Water Tower Textiles) for the base band, and added some funky stretch lace (Libelle Sewing) for the knot part. 

I didn't need my seam ripper once!

The pockets are the perfect height for my hands to just happen to fall into. Because POCKETS!

The side view is also quite nice - you can see with my Gloria Peplum top that there is no evidence of a fabric knot underneath, and it works well with my Sheila Top (tank to long sleeved, top to dress length!) tucked inside to really show the band off. 

And the back - I like it, and I love the flare at my knees.

Gloria Gloria - The 5 out of 4 Sewing Patterns Gloria Peplum Top Review

I really didn't think Peplums would be great for my body type - hourglass shaped with a caboose, I thought they would make me look bigger. 

The 5 out of 4 Gloria Peplum was my first foray into Peplums last year, and a success!  

She comes with a few options:
- No to long sleeves
- Full or split sleeves
- Finished cuff or gathered cuffs
- Peplum, Regular Skirt, High Lo Skirt options

 


The Gloria was a simple sew with a different arm option - the split sleeve!  

I originally had the elbow length sleeve, however, cut it to short sleeve as my sleeve fabric wasn't drapey enough and looked weird with a longer sleeve. Lesson learned. 

I love the way this Peplum fits and that it wasn't a fabric hog - it's quite flattering, even at a shorter length than I normally would wear. 

I can't remember where This turquoise and unicorn fabric came from - likely Okee Dokee Kids Fabrics. 

 

I paired this Gloria with my Capris length Diane Joggers, and it's the perfect match!

The sleeve opening definitely works better with a softer and drapier fabric, and it sits flat on my arms. 

I used lightweight cotton lycra and rayon fabrics from Water Tower Textiles. 

 

Here's a close up on the sleeve and side - I love this little peek-a-boo effect!  

And the drape of the top - it helps cover up things I'd rather not think about, and makes me feel confidant wearing it.
