Unicorns, Unicorns, EVERYWHERE! Rebecca Page Patterns Unicorn Doll Sewing Pattern

Always be yourself, unless you can be a Unicorn.

Then always be a Unicorn.

Rebecca Page Patterns has a lovely new handsewn Unicorn Doll Pattern.

The pattern includes:
- A whimsical and magical unicorn pattern

- No machine required - can be stitched completely by hand (hello, camping project!)

- Beautiful mane (with as few or many hair wisps as you'd like!)

- Button or doll joints for the legs

I am a bit of a Unicorn fan, so jumped at the chance to create my very own Unicorn!

Hand Cutting out all of the pieces deems a netflix episode (or  two) - and I know a few testers used their Cricut machines to cut out their pieces even quicker (don't ask me how  - I don't own such Wizardry!).

Then the stitching begins.

The tail is first - and can be plain, fully stuffed, or partially stuffed and embroidered.  I opted to match my felt fabric colours with some embroidery thread.

Make sure to stuff the tail VERY lightly in order for this to work.

The horn is super cute - and you can be as creative or basic as you like.  I glued some pink string beads onto it in a circular motion for a blast of colour.

And look at those eyes!  I used iron on fabric for the eye, and embroidery thread for the lashes.

And THAT MANE.

It's pretty gorgeous! I think I used about 40 pieces of hair wisp to create this, and I love the way it looks.

I did just sew the legs on - no buttons, no doll joints...just plain. Sure they don't move, but he's okay not moving.

Why move when people will move you instead?

Sparkle Fancy Feet is smart.

Play with Fairies.

Ride a Unicorn.

Swim with Mermaids.

Chase Rainbows.

Give your try at creating this gorgeous Unicorn toy - and give old-fashioned hand sewing a go.

You and any kiddos you can safely round up will enjoy this as a great summer project!

Rebecca Page's FREE Unicorn Pillow Sewing Pattern Review

Anyone who knows me, knows I am generally the unicorn in the room - full of mystery, magic, and tries to see the rainbow at the end of the dreary clouds.

The last year and a half has been a struggle to keep my Unicorn, and I've lost her a few times...but I knew Rebecca Page's newest pattern would help bring her back out again!

This lovely Unicorn pillow pattern is FREE (I love free!) and is a great way to sew up your sparkly ribbons and fabric with a magical pillow to reward yourself with.

I made a more traditional Unicorn, and a funky Galaxy out of this world Unicorn to bring out my geeky side.

The galaxy unicorn was made with baby fleece fabric from Okee Dokee Fabrics and is SOOOOO soft and snuggly.

It is darker than traditional Unicorns...but I'm a bit of a goofball and dance to my own beat.  I felt this was an appropriate choice.

The Ears are made from iron on fabric and a hairy ribbon I've had for eons from my hardcore scrapbooking days mystery packs. It is PERFECT ear hair for this unicorn!

I just used double sided sticky 1/4" interfacing tape to attach the hair - and the iron on fabric I just ironed on - no sewing for this part!

The eye is also iron on fabric - making it SOOOOO easy to attach.  They have funky colours and patterns at Walmart, and it makes the small hand sewing of projects like this unicorn pillow SOOOOO much easier to deal with.

The Horn is also a bit of a cheat vs the pattern instructions - I took out my Dewalt Glue Gun (a Christmas gift from Husband - and YES I love tools and other practical equipment for gifts - I'm a weird woman).  I just glued this fun sparkle gem "ribbon" (again, from a random scrapbooking mystery pack eons ago), and it will hold up for some time.

And despite pinning, sewing slowly, and unpicking the head part twice (once as I misplaced where the ears should be, the other because the horn basting seam was showing), the horn just kept showing the basting seams, and I didn't want to unpick the seam in case the horn exploded.   So I took out my trusty glue gun again, and placed a matching ribbon and more sparkly gems at the base of the horn to cover up the seam.

No one knows. Except me and you.

I LOVE this soft shimmery fabric I used for the mane.  Paired with 2" back ribbon, it gives my Unicorn a pure universal appearance!

My traditional Unicorn Pillow is so pretty and used up some scrap fabric that must of been waiting to be made into something magical.

All the fabric is random from unknown sources - and all woven.

For the horn, I used some rick-rack (and tacked it in every few inches, by hand sewing) - and it looks great.

The mane is a random green/turquoise shimmery fabric that I had just enough of - it must of been fate!

Sewing the multiple layers of fabric wasn't too difficult, pending your setting on your machine is more forgiving (higher needle setting), you use lots of pins, and you just take your time. It is well worth the effort.

Again, I used iron on fabric for the eye and the nostrils.

And as proof of my love for Unicorns....here is me riding down our river at our cottage lot - it's a 10KM (4-5 hours) ride down the river...and nothing is more magical that doing it in my ergonomically correct unicorn float!

The Perfect River Float Combo - G + G's Daybreak Rashguard & 5oo4's Ninjas + Shenanigans Skort

We purchased river land (6 acres) Spring 2017, and my knees (and everything) burn quickly under the sun.

There is also a "whenever you want" floating on the river opportunity, to which I knew I needed to protect my precious watermelon knees from burning away.

I decided my 10km river float outfit would include George + Ginger's Daybreak Rashguard and 5 out of 4's Shenanigans Skorts mashed with the Ninja Leggings and Escapade bikini top

For the G + G Daybreak Rashguard, I opted for 3/4 length sleeves and length - I'd go full length with closed back option next time for the bodice - the sleeve lengths were perfect.

For the Rashguard, I used a mix of spandex scraps (purple), men's swim fabric (back black band), and Pirate Swim fabric from Okee Dokee Fabrics.

Love my Daybreak - great protection from the sun while still being breathable!

For the Escapade Bikini top, The bands are comfortable enough for me to wear this all day long (usually an issue with bathing suits and me), and to be honest, it makes my boobs look magical!

For the bikini top, I used Swim fabric from Fabricland (flower pattern) and Spandex Scraps for the straps and front ruching ties.  The bands are comfortable enough for me to wear this all day long (usually an issue with bathing suits and me), and to be honest

It = perfect epic combination for safe river floating and fun in the water!

Back - turned out great with a few tweaks!
For the Ninja Leggings addition to the Shenanigans Skort, I love the idea of the Skort as it allows me to jump on the ATV on the way back from dropping the car off at our exit point from the river (this is pre-planning, as I'm not walking 10km back to camp!); It's more of an outfit vs just a bathing suit, but waterproof to boot!

As the leggings waist diameter is the same as the skort's normal shorts diameter, the Ninja's were the perfect compromise.

I used men's swimsuit fabric (black portion of skirt) & ladies' flowered swim fabric from Fabricland, and the same pirate fabric for the leggings part

Merlin and I are pirates - ARRR!

Floating with my Unicorn!!

Chronic Fatigue in Me - There is Hope

I know a lot of my Posts relate to products - I'm helping the little businesses get their name out there.  I know how difficult marketing is from my Crystal's Bird Toys days - word of mouth really DOES get the most repetitive business (or at least that's what I encountered).

This post in about My ongoing 12+ year battle with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Something the majority of people just brush off or laugh off.

I can't count the number of mainstream doctors I've seen.  I've seen one homoeopathic "doctor" (she was only a few years into it, but I saw a glimmer of hope with her treatments).  And one Naturopathic Doctor (ND) who really helped me progress beyond Zombie stage 3 years ago.

Every single one of my friends, my in-laws, and the car at lunch have all encountered Systic falling asleep on their couches, on chairs, on the floor, against walls, and probably other random places.

When I stop, I drop. Or at least I used to.

My ND, however, was not cheap. And as great as my employers' benefit plan is, beyond the actual visit fee, Naturopathic remedies are not covered. I could manage this when I ran CBT - but after I closed shop, it became very anxiety driven as to where the extra $200-$300 a month would come from.

So I went from monthly visits to every 3 months, then 4, and finally not at all. I stalled out, my memory began fading again, my constant dizziness returned, and my sleep cycle worsened.

It's not as bad as it was 3 years ago - I can work out daily, and am not a walking zombie. I don't feel I'm as grumpy as I used to be either.

I really do try to stay positive - like unicorns, sparkles, and Jazz Hands!

Not stopping + positive thinking = better frame of mind.

Then my accident in September happened, and my mainstream doctor ignored me yet again (about my pain and injury totally unrelated to CFS), and I ended up in the emergency room two days later.

Husband once again asked his newish family doctor if he would take me on as a patient. Husband likes his doctor - he listens and seems to actually care. For Husband to recommend someone - they MUST be good!

I finally mustered up the energy to fill in the transfer paperwork, and eventually got it to the new doctor's office for the process to begin.

I'm at the point where I expect nothing from mainstream doctors. For my concerns to be brushed under the rug, like my last doctor who suggested warm milk and a boring book before bed.

I'm totally serious.

I went to my first appointment the day after the last snowstorm.  I snowshoed part way to be more efficient.  And really, who doesn't want to snowshoe partway across town? It's what Canadians do, eh!

.  My first impression was "Wow!" as the nurse was personable, friendly, and made me giggle.

The nurses at my old office were always abrupt and never smiled - I appreciate that they are busy running a clinic, but making patients feel like more than just a number really goes a long way.

My new doctor's office is just him - no clinic with multiple doctors on the roster (I did have my own set doctor) with a walk in at the end of the day AND It's not an Appletree (which I don't think I ever saw the same doctor at).

I was in the reception room for 1 minute and then brought to a room in the back. I was in the room in the back for another minute before the doctor arrived.

So weird, right?  A doctor on time??

As this was the meet & greet appointment, I went through my history, and my main concern - my CFS.  He asked me questions, spoke about what he might be able to do for me, and set me up to get my blood work completed.

My last doctor didn't have my bloodwork done, and I was with her for at least 7 years.

8 vials of blood and 2 weeks later, I was sitting in his office again.

An action plan is now in motion!  Right then and there he administered my first monthly Vitamin B12 shot. And faxed over 3 prescriptions to the pharmacy.

I'm on a super weekly dose of Vitamin D (1 pill a week 10x the normal weekly amount), monthly Vitamin B12 shots, and Modafinil in the mornings (my keep me awake pills).

He was hesitant about the Modafinil, as he wanted to get me into the Sleep Clinic first - but they don't have any availability until July or August - this is a band aid fix until he can review the results of my sleep test.

I'm also going in to another specialist for my Thyroid this week - it's enlarged with a possible growth on it - the thing that irks me, is I recall at least 2 other doctors in the past years who have mentioned it seems enlarged. And they did nothing.

I honestly feel like crying, because for the first time in 12+ years, I'm not being ignored. There is an action plan in place. I don't feel like a number.

I don't feel like a number.

Wow.

So far, I feel like I can focus so much better, which is great, as I have my Risk Management exam next month and have had troubles really focusing and remembering what I'm studying and learning.

I feel less foggy in my brain.

I feel there is Hope.

I feel the girl pictured below pre-CFS can come to life again.  I also really miss that running shirt - It was so sweet!
